Unscramble into anagrams
What is an anagram?
An anagram is a word formed by rearranging all the letters of another word. "Listen" becomes "silent", "dusty" becomes "study", and "astronomer" famously becomes "moon starer". Our anagram solver goes one step further: besides full-length anagrams, it also lists every shorter word hiding in your letters, which is exactly what you need for Scrabble, Words With Friends and Jumble puzzles.
How the anagram solver works
When you type your letters, the tool compares them against a dictionary of 4,748 English words using letter counts — the same way you would check tiles on a rack. Any word that can be built from your letters (using each letter at most as many times as it appears) is a match. Results are grouped from longest to shortest, so the highest-value plays appear first.
Tips for finding anagrams yourself
- Start with the longest words. In Scrabble-style games, longer words usually score more and open the board.
- Spot common prefixes and suffixes. UN-, RE-, DIS- at the start and -ING, -ED, -ER, -EST, -LY at the end appear constantly.
- Look for familiar pairs. TH, CH, SH, QU, CK, ST and TR are the glue of English words — build around them.
- Isolate the vowels. Write vowels in one group and consonants in another; most anagrams reveal themselves once you try each vowel between consonant clusters.
- For Jumble puzzles, solve the shortest jumbles first — their answers often hint at the final cartoon caption.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an anagram solver and a word unscrambler?
They use the same matching engine. The word unscrambler adds support for blank (wildcard) tiles, which is handy for Scrabble racks — the anagram solver works with exact letters only.
How many letters can I enter?
Up to 12 letters. The solver finds every full-length anagram plus all shorter sub-words of 2 or more letters.
Does it show shorter words too, or only full anagrams?
Both. Results are grouped by length, longest first, so you will see the full anagrams at the top and every playable shorter word below.
Can this solve Jumble word puzzles?
Yes. Type the jumbled letters and look at the longest matches — those are the answers the puzzle is hiding.
Is the anagram solver free?
Yes — free, unlimited and no signup required.
